How to convert a PST file into MBOX format?

  • How to convert PST file MBOX format?

    Here is the simply and free way to do the PST to MBOX conversion:
    1. Register new Gmail account
    2. Run MS Outlook and configure new IMAP account to connect to Gmail
    3. Open your PST file in Outlook using menu File > Open > Open Outlook Data File... (if it is not yet opened)
    4. Copy Outlook folders you want to be converted from your PST profile to your IMAP account
    5. Wait till the end of IMAP synchronisation
    6. In your WebBrowser use the Google Takeout service to export emails from the Gmail account to MBOX file
    7. Download created MBOX files in a ZIP archive to your computer
    Note that each .mbox file may contacin data of one folder, so if you have many folders in your account, you will get multiple .mbox files.

    • Outlook Data File Size Limitations

      By default Microsoft Outlook is configured with OST or PST file size restrictions. If your data file will grow up to the critical value, you will be notified first and then Outlook will block the write operations. Then you have several possible ways to continue work with Outlook:

      1. you may remove the old emails and compact the PST file to reduce its size and make more space available;

      The maximum default PST and OST files size per Outlook version:

    • How to open PST file in Outlook?
      by Master
      Do the following to open Outlook data file:

      1. Run Microsoft Outlook
      2. Click menu File
      3. Click option Open
      4. Choose Open Outlook Data File… item
      5. Select your PST file and press OK to open it

      Alternatively you may import data from PST file using the File>Import option, however it works improperly from time to time.
